Here is the info I have on our family:

These additional names appear in our family bible. Maybe children of Daniel T. Knowlton:

In all these names and places, Ken, no mention of any New England area, which is where I saw most of the Knowltons. So who did we descend from---thats the big question. See Iowa appears a lot.

Any help you can give will be so appreciated. Again I look forward to hearing from you.

For my own research on the history of the Knowlton family, I need pages 46 and 47 of the errata and addenda to Stocking's book. My copy is missing them. I would dearly appreciate hearing from anyone who could mail or e-mail me those pages. Thank-you all for your gracious and cheerful additions to the available information that I get to read in my e-mail.

Have traced direct ancestry to Julius K Knowlton (GGF) b 1798 but have no other information. Does anyone have a Julius in their file?

There are NO Knowltons or Noltons on the 1880 soundex for Dakota, I want you all to know so that no one ever again spends time reading the "Mixed" codes for K500 and ALL of N in that territory. Do you know that the entire 1880 soundex for Dakota is only 5 reels? Pretty amazing.

I got into this tracking down James Roy Knowlton per the post back in late October:

>I'm looking for a James Roy Knowlton born mid to late 1800s, married to a Mary Rowbottom, had a son (James Roy) in Chicago in 1915.<

So far I am suspecting that James Roy was born Roy James in 1887 in Dakota territory and that not Mary but another Rowbottom sister was his wife. The researcher will need to order some vital records to determine that.

Roy James lived in Chicago and had siblings named Benjamin, Frank W., Zoe or Joe M., Edward L., and Helen E. (probably died young) born in Michigan, Dakota, Wisconsin, and Illinois as the Edward and Mary E. Gilchrist Knowlton family struggled to survive. I suspect they followed the building of the railroad west.

Edward was born in NY, but Mary E. Gilchrist came from Canada and crossed into Michigan with her family in 1865. The 1880 census taker seems to have missed the Knowltons between their move from Michigan to Dakota, but in Jackson Co., MI, I found the old Knowlton and Gilchrist families living close by and am pretty sure these are our people's parents: Edmond, 64, and Letitia, 66, Knowlton, both born in IRELAND, and Mary Gilchrist, Sr., 48, with the rest of her children, including little Ellen (Nellie)

Gilchrist who later lived with the Knowltons in Chicago. Mary, Sr. and her husband were born in Ireland and in Ireland or Scotland, respectively.

This is the second instance of 19th century Irish Knowltons I have seen, and I hope we can start linking some of them soon.
